Course aims:

Teaching the fundamental concepts and issues of Regional Sociology with respect to regional development and European regional policies fulfillment.
To know the origin of regional sociology and European regional policies
To know the process of establishing the regions
To know the Romanian regional realities and historical regions

Course contents:

The origins of Regional Sociology. Epistemological and methodological grounds The origins of Regional Sociology. European regional policies How regions come into existence? On regionalization as a process How regions come into existence? On regionalising as a set of “dividing into regions” actions Regional identity Romanian regional realities. Historical regions Romanian regional realities. Development regions Regional sociology approaches. The sociological atlas Regional sociology approaches. The cultural areas Sociological inquiries and small-scale regional development programmes.

Lecture, conversation, exemplification.

Learning outcomes:

- Knowledge of heuristic and practical valences of sociological perspective on region. - Ability to analyse a region at a structural, relational and occupational level.

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written paper – applicative essay – 60%; continuous assessment – 40%.
