Course aims:

Explain the key concepts in probation
Introduces students to the historical development of probation and to contemporary practices in implementing crime control policies
To know the main models of probation
Formation of necessary skills for design and implementation of the psychosocial assessment, surveillance plans and plans for assistance and counseling

Course contents:

Probation, conceptual delimitations. History of probation. The main models of probation. The legal context of probation in Romania The probation before court verdict: evaluation report. The probation after court verdict: surveillance plan, assistance plan. Methods and techniques used in probation practice. The future of probation.

Teaching methods:

Lecture, conversation, exemplification.

Learning outcomes:

• Knows and explain the basic concepts in the filed of probation. • Knows the history of Probation. • Knows the basic models of probation. • Knows the legal framework of probation in Romania • Produce an evaluation report. • Produce an surveillance plan. • Produce an assistance plan. • Knows and uses properly a large range of methods and techniques in probation practice.

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written paper –– 60%; project assessment – 40%
