Aims

• Delivering theoretical and methodological basic notions related to ecology and environmental protection;

• Students customization to the specific terminology and expressions related to ecology and environmental protection;

- Presenting basics regarding population dynamics, interconnections with environmental systems, as well as environmental systems modelling methods.

Course contents

1. Introduction, aims and objectives of this lecture; 2. World Problematique and Sustainable Development; 3. General notions regarding Ecology; 4. Basics about ecosystems; 5. Fundamentals regarding population ecology; 6. Population Dynamics; 7. Fundamentals regarding modelling environmental systems; 8. Man and environment. Society, economy, and ecology; 9. Energetic resources and their usage environmental impacts; 10. Basic notions regarding environmental pollution and protection; 11. Environmental monitoring and assessment. Environmental indicators. 12. Concluding remarks, relevance for the field of environmental engineering.

Learning outcomes

- Understanding and knowing diverse notions, concepts, and methods related to ecology and environmental protection; - Delivering theoretical and methodological basic aspects with regard to ecology and environmental protection; - Students familiarization with ecology specific terminology, with general notions related to ecology; - Knowing basics regarding population dynamics; - Knowing fundamental concepts related to environmental impact assessment; - Understanding ecology relevance for environmental impact assessment and environmental engineering for assuring sustainabilty of human socity

Assessment

Oral examination – 50%; continuous assessment by preparing reports and delivering results of practical work in the laboratory – 25%; implication in solving problems during seminars – 25 %
