Course aims:

O 1 In-depth understanding of equivalence in translation, with a focus on cultural equivalence and the necessity of preserving the cultural and national identity of the translated text.
O 2 In-depth understanding of the operational concepts in translation theory and the aspects involved in this process.
O 3 Analysis of different language registers and functional styles of the language in order to achieve transfer from one language into the other.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course the students will be able to define, describe and explain the main concepts, theories, methods that are fundamental to translation and interpreting, and of specific terminology to languages A, B, C, pertaining to the target professional domains.

End-of-semester written test to check understanding and use of concepts, theories, methods used in the field of translation and interpreting of given texts. Home assignments done throughout the semester. Attendance and involvement in class.
