Course aims:

facilitating the knowledge, understanding of the basic concepts, theories and methods of the field of commodity exchanges, their proper use in professional communication;
facilitating the students' use of the basic knowledge for explaining and interpreting stock market developments, the importance of using commodity exchanges for marketing products or for supply;
understanding the mechanism of trading on commodity exchanges
making the distinction between different contracts traded on commodity exchanges
calculating the return on an investment made on commodity exchanges

Course contents:

1. Commodity exchanges - defining elements 2. Instruments traded on commodity exchanges: futures contracts 3. Option contracts 4. Other stock exchange operations: speculation, hedging arbitrage 5. Organization and functioning of international stock markets

Lecture, conversation, exemplification.

Learning outcomes:

• Knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts, theories, and methods in the field of capital market; their adequateuse in professional communication; • Use of fundamental knowledge in order to explain and interpret various types and characteristics of forward, futures and options contracts operating in the mercantile exchanges

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written exam – 60%; verification during semester – 40%.
