Course aims:

Specific techniques for renal patients with: urine output changes, renal edema, temporary vascular access, permanent vascular access, peritoneal dialysis catheter, renal replacement therapy, uremia, hydroelectrolytic and acid-base imbalances, kidney biopsy
Integrated care of renal patients with various comorbidities: cardiovascular, infectious, metabolic (e.g., diabetes with chronic complications), surgical, endocrine, rheumatologic, etc.
Care of patients with chronic kidney disease under conservative treatment or renal replacement therapy in nephrology wards/clinics

Course Entry Requirements:

Students must know the fundamentals of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Parasitology, Pathophysiology, Internal Medicine, General Nursing

Course contents:

  1. Functional anatomy of the kidney, kidney functions, acid-base, water, and electrolyte balance/imbalance, nursing evaluation, specific care
  2. Urine examination, kidney function assessment, proteinuria, hematuria, blood tests, radiological examination
  3. Classification of kidney diseases: glomerular, tubulointerstitial, vascular involvement, urinary tract obstruction, congenital kidney diseases, iatrogenic aggression, urinary infection
  4. Acute renal failure
  5. Chronic kidney disease
  6. Hypertension in renal patients, cardiac involvement, diabetes and kidney involvement, elderly kidney
  7. Renal replacement therapies: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, kidney transplantation
