Course aims:

To acquire the fundations of sociological thinking and social interactions
To develop analysis capabilities of sociological issues from different theoretical perspectives
To use sociological imagination to understand social world and social situations.
To analyze the social problems sociologically

Course contents:

The Foundations of Sociology: Introduction, Sociological Methods, General Sociological Theory. Social Life: Society, Culture, Socialization, Groups, Aging, Deviance. Social Inequality: Stratification, Race and Ethnicity, Gender. Social Institutions: Economy, Family, Religion, Health and Medicine , Politics. Social Change: Collective Behavior, Social Movements.

Teaching methods:

Lecture, conversation, exemplification.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge of the concepts, theories, paradigms and methodologies used in the research of organizations and communities Use of basic knowledge in explaining and interpreting social risks at community level. Evaluation and appreciation of policies, programs and services specific to social work

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written paper –– 60%; continuous assessment – 40%.
