Course aims:

The discipline aims to develop theoretical, practical and professional attitude skills, necessary for understanding and applying the techniques and styles of Christian art, in order to develop the capacity for artistic creation, aesthetic sensitivity and professional responsibility, integrating ethical principles, cultural values ​​and digital resources in the process of creating and capitalizing on the artistic work.
Identifies and describes the main styles, techniques and materials used in Byzantine and post-Byzantine Christian art.
Analyzes and interprets the compositions and symbols specific to sacred art, in relation to the principles of Byzantine painter's manual.
Applies traditional painting and composition techniques in the creation of artistic works with Christian themes.
Develops the ability to plan the process of artistic creation, respecting the technical and stylistic stages.
Demonstrates a reflective attitude, professional responsibility and respect for the spiritual and cultural heritage of Christian art.

Introduction to Christian art: historical and theological context. Early Christian art. The beginning of Byzantine art
Age of Justinian The Macedonian Renaissance: Technical Analysis and stylistics Common painting: Technique and aesthetics period Paleological Painting: Historical Context, technical and aesthetic features Byzantine painting from Serbia Russian painting school
The Transylvanian glass icon in a European context. Elements of cultural heritage and forms of artistic valorization
 

Teaching methods:

Lecture, debate, presentation. Practical applications.

Learning outcomes:

Analyzes and discusses the compositional, symbolic and stylistic elements of Christian art objects, using a specialized plastic language.

Selects and uses appropriately the raw materials, supports and materials specific to the creation of Christian art works.

Studies and applies traditional and contemporary techniques of sacred art.
