Course aims:

Acquiring knowledge of the principles of separation of pollutants from heterogeneous systems, methods of their absorption and desorption.
Knowledge of installations for the protection of emissions of polluting gases into the atmosphere.
Knowledge of methods for reducing the emission of gaseous pollutants into the atmosphere, the ability to choose the optimal method of elimination or reduction of gaseous pollutants.
Quantification of emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere using engineering computing systems.

Course contents:

1. Classification and characteristics of different sources of pollution of the atmosphere. Methods and analysis equipment. 2. Laws and Regulations. 3. Fuels combustion. 4. Nitrogen Oxides Control 5. Sulfur Oxides Control 6. Carbon monoxide and dioxide control 7. Elimination of hydrogen sulfide from gases 8. Elimination of volatile organic compounds 9. Methods and installations for the protection of the atmosphere. Separation of heterogeneous systems. 10. Quantification of emissions - calculation applications 11. Case study- practical laboratory activities

C1: Explanation of mechanisms, processes and effects of anthropogenic or natural origin that cause and influence environmental pollution C.1.2. C2.4 Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of natural phenomena and anthropogenic activities on the quality of environmental factors C2.5 Identifying the best technical and technological solutions in order to implement professional engineering and environmental protection projects

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Exam from theoretical knowledge (60%) and evaluation of the practical laboratory and seminar activity (40%)
