Course aims:

Establish the shape and dimensions of the Earth
Design of the spatial geodetic networks
Spatial geodetic determinations

Course Entry Requirements:

Measurement adjustment, Mathematical Analysis

Course contents:

• Introduction. The geoid and the ellipsoid • Reference ellipsoid parameters • Main curves on the reference ellipsoid • Meridian and parallel arch length • Normal sections. The geodetic line • Solving geodetic triangles on the reference ellipsoid • Fundamental geodetic problems

Teaching methods:

Lecture, conversation, exemplification, computational software

Learning outcomes:

• Determination of the shape and dimensions of the Earth • Designing and solving spatial geodetic networks

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written paper – interpretative essay – 60%; continuous assessment – 40%
