Course aims:

The knowledge acquired will allow understanding of other courses in the fields included in the study of sacred art.
The theme allows for the knowledge of fundamental iconological elements, their understanding in the contemporary liturgical space; understanding the framework that generated a theology in images, as well as the way in which this original framework is creatively exploited.
Identifying representative monuments, trends and personalities for the field of study of contemporary art iconography.

Contemporary ecclesiastical space.
Iconography of the altar in the contemporary liturgical space.
Iconography of the nave in the contemporary liturgical space.
Iconography of the narthex and porch in the contemporary liturgical space.
The iconostasis. Hermeneia. Tradition and modernity.
Iconography of contemporary art. Alternative spaces.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course, students will learn about the thematic evolution of iconographic programs in the space of post-Byzantine and contemporary Romanian Orthodoxy; as well as the evolution of artistic trends in the field of contemporary iconography

Oral exam 50%, Essay and project/practical work 50%
