Course aims:

Develop the ability to recognize medical emergencies requiring first aid
Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge for correct application of first aid measures
Develop the ability to cooperate with other rescuers or specialized services in emergency situations
Learn basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques in major medical emergencies

Course Entry Requirements:

Fundamental knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology, and General Nursing

Course contents:

  • Patient assessment in emergencies; identifying emergencies; first aid principles
  • Cardiovascular emergencies – sudden cardiac death, cardiac arrest, CPR, first aid measures
  • Cardiovascular emergencies – acute coronary syndrome, aortic dissection, arrhythmias
  • Cardiovascular emergencies – hypertensive encephalopathy, acute peripheral ischemia, DVT, pulmonary embolism
  • Respiratory emergencies – acute pulmonary edema, acute respiratory failure, hemoptysis
  • Respiratory emergencies – asthma attacks, severe asthma, exacerbated COPD, pneumothorax
  • Gastrointestinal emergencies – acute abdominal pain (acute cholecystitis, pancreatitis, perforated ulcer, upper GI bleeding, obstruction)
  • Renal and urologic emergencies – acute renal failure, renal colic, urinary retention
  • Endocrinologic and metabolic emergencies – thyrotoxic crisis, myxedema coma, hypoglycemic and diabetic coma
  • Neurologic emergencies – strokes, cerebral comas, seizure syndromes, assessment of unconscious patients
  • Hematologic emergencies – coagulation disorders, hemorrhages, blood transfusions
  • Shock – hypovolemic, cardiogenic, septic, anaphylactic, and first aid
  • Toxicological emergencies – chemical, medicinal, and non-medicinal intoxications, first aid measures
  • Environmental and trauma emergencies – hypo/hyperthermia, frostbite, burns, insect bites, snake bites, first aid measures
