Course aims:

Develop theoretical and technical understanding of mosaic art as a monumental form of visual expression, focusing on materials, tools, and traditional techniques.
Explore historical and cultural contexts of pavement and wall mosaics, analyzing significant archaeological sites, decorative elements, and iconographic meanings.
Cultivate creative and professional skills in designing and executing original mosaic compositions integrated into architectural or artistic spaces.

Pavement mosaic with natural stone.

Archaeological sites and monuments with pavment mosaic.

Ornaments and symbols.

Wall mosaic. Decorative elements and iconography.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to :

Analyze the materials, structure, and techniques used in pavement mosaics made of natural stone, identifying their aesthetic and functional characteristics in the context of monumental art.

Recognize and apply ornamental motifs and symbols in mosaic design, understanding their iconographic meaning and role in sacred and public art.
