Course aims:
• knowing, understanding and a correct using of fundamental ideas, concepts specific to Descriptive Geometry;
• knowing how to represent a point;
• knowing how to represent a straight line;
• knowing how to represent a plane.

Course contents:
1. Descriptive geometry. Introduction.
2. The central/conical and the parallel projection of a point.
3. The central/conical and the parallel projection of a straight line.
4. The central/conical and the parallel projection of a plane.
5. Projection planes. Dividing the space in dihedral angles or quadrans.
6. Dividing the space in trihedral.
7. The double orthogonal representation system (the Monge projection)
8. The orthogonal projection on two planes of projection. The orthographic representation of the point.
9. Defining a line. Projections. The orthographic representation of a straight line.
10. The particular positions of the line relative to the planes of projection.
11. The relative position of two straight lines: intersecting lines, parallel lines, nonintersecting lines.
12. The traces of the line.
13. The plane. The orthographic representation of the plane.
14. Determining the traces of the plane.
Teaching methods:
Lecture, conversation, exemplification.
Learning outcomes:
• to accustom students with terminology, methods, equipment and instruments specific of this discipline;
• to give students the basics concepts needed to obtain a representation;
• understanding of issues they will encounter in their future profession.
Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:
Written exam – 60%; Portfolio of practical work – 40%.
