Course aims:

Knowledge of clinical signs in main infectious diseases
Knowledge of therapeutic measures specific to main infectious diseases
Presentation of current directions regarding infectious diseases: nosocomial infections, antibiotic therapy

Course Entry Requirements:

Students must have knowledge of basic Biochemistry, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Parasitology, Pathophysiology, General Nursing, and Infectious Diseases

Course contents:

  1. Importance of knowing epidemiological and clinical aspects in infectious diseases; principles of diagnosis.
  2. Therapeutic principles in infectious diseases.
  3. Eruptive infectious diseases: measles, rubella, chickenpox, angina, scarlet fever, herpes zoster, infectious mononucleosis – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  4. Acute respiratory diseases: respiratory viral infections, flu, new-type flu, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  5. Sepsis – etiopathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment principles, patient care specifics.
  6. Infectious diseases with oropharyngeal involvement (epidemic parotitis, vesicular stomatitis with exanthem); enteroviruses: poliomyelitis and non-polio enteroviruses – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  7. Acute viral hepatitis – clinical aspects, prophylaxis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  8. Diseases entering through skin and mucosa: tetanus, anthrax, rabies, leptospirosis – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  9. Meningitis: bacterial, viral, tuberculous – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  10. Toxoplasmosis, malaria – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  11. Bacterial infections with various entry points: staphylococcal infections with H. influenzae, Lyme disease – diagnosis, treatment, patient care specifics.
  12. HIV/AIDS infection – etiopathogenesis, clinical and paraclinical picture.
  13. HIV/AIDS infection – positive diagnosis, staging, treatment principles, patient care specifics.
