Course aims:
• Delivering theoretical and methodological basic notions related to products life cycle analysis and assessment
• Understanding basic notions related to products life cycle analysis and assessment
• Customization to specific terminology and expressions regarding products life cycle analysis and assessment
Course Entry Requirements:
Bachelor in engineering, preferably environmental engineering field
Course contents:
1. Introduction and course objectives
2. Basics about environmental pollution and environmental protection
3. Fundamental notions regarding products life cycle analysis and assessment
4. Structural elements of products life cycle
5. Analysis and assessment methods of products life cycle
6. Life cycles of different industrial products
7. Life cycles of different agricultural products and white goods
8. Life cycles of different products for general use
9. Life cycles of different cars
10. Considering social aspects in the usage phase of different products
11. Optimizing odds of products life cycles with regard to mitigating environmental impacts
12. Mitigating odds of diverse products environmental impacts during their whole life cycle
13. Wastes and recycling during products life cycles
14, Concluding remarks regarding role of products life cycle analysis and assessment for environmental protection and sustainability of human society
Teaching methods:
Giving lectures, presenting real case studies, explaining products fabrication processes and life cycles, exemplification, applying hands-on methods.
Learning outcomes:
knowing basic principles of analyze and assessing products life cycles;
gaining theoretical and methodological notions with regard to diverse products life cycles;
basic notions regarding selection criteria when using products with small environmental impact;
good expertise retrieval and systematic knowledge on the basis of deeper insights within analyzing and assessing procedures of products life cycles.
Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:
Oral examination – 50%; presenting prepared project – 25%; implication in solving problems during seminars – 25 %
