Course aims:

Industrial systems analysis and synthesis for control
Industrial systems identification for control
Control architectures design for low motion process
Control architectures design for fast motion process

Course Entry Requirements:

• Fundamental knowledge in electronics. Fundamental knowledge in programming

Course contents:

The Introduction to Process Control (functions of basic devices for measuring and controlling different kinds of variables in process control).

Open loop systems analysis and design (slow and fast motion processes). Closed-loop control design (slow and fast motion processes).

PID functions, analog and digital devices, and control system applications.

Study case: the use of sensors in automation; sensor types contact, proximity, force, vision systems.

Dedicated automation systems: materials handling; analysis and control functions.

Teaching methods:

Lecture, conversation, exemplification, exercises. Projects development

Learning outcomes:

Skills in modeling and simulation principles

Provide explicit solution in control for slow, fast processes 

Understand differences between continuous and discrete processes

Understand differences between linear and non-linear processes

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Final exam 10%; Projects/Assignments –60%; Continuous assessment – 30%.
