Course aims:

The dissemination and acquisition by students of the primary methodologies and concepts employed in demographic analysis
To equip students with a critical understanding of the influence of demographic trends—such as population aging, migration, and fertility on the EU and worldwide workforce, utilizing empirical data and sociological theories.

Course contents:

Gain a comprehensive understanding of demographic data sources, including mortality indicators and trends, as well as infant mortality.

Explore fertility, nuptiality, and divorce indicators and trends.

Examine migration, its definitions, theories, and developments.

Examine demographic structures, aging, and the demographic transition.

Learning outcomes:

Students will acquire foundational knowledge of key demographic concepts and methodologies.  

They will develop competencies in constructing indicators pertinent to various demographic phenomena.  

Additionally, they will gain the capability to perform primary-level interpretation of demographic data.

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written paper –– 60%; continuous assessment – 40%.
