Course aims:
• Delivering theoretical and methodological basic notions related to the concept of sustainable development;
• Understanding basic notions related to applying the concept of sustainable development on local or company level;
• Customization to the specific terminology and expressions regarding the concept of sustainable development.
Course Entry Requirements:
Bachelor in engineering, preferably environmental engineering field

1. Introduction, course aims and objectives
2. Appearance background of sustainable development
3. Definition of the concept of sustainable development
4. Main phases regarding afterwards concept development
5. Operationalization of the concept of sustainable development
6. Institutionalization of the concept of sustainable development
7. Sustainable development indicators
8. Sustainable development strategies
9. Relevance of environmental aspects with regard to sustainable development
10. Environmental expenditures during products life cycle
11. Tradable emission permit
12. Concluding remarks
Teaching methods:
Giving lectures, presenting real case studies, explaining the concept of sustainable development, exemplification, applying hands-on methods.
Learning outcomes:
knowing basic concepts and principles of sustainable development on different levels;
gaining theoretical and methodological notions with regard to the concept of sustainable development;
good expertise retrieval and systematic knowledge on the basis of deeper insights within analyzing procedures for operationalizing sustainable development;
basic notions for right decisions with regard to assuring sustainable development of humanity.
Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:
Oral examination – 50%; presenting prepared project regarding sustainable development on local level – 25%; implication in solving problems during seminars – 25 %
