Course aims:

to develop students’ ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in English within specialized professional and technical contexts.
to enhance ss'translation skills from English into Romanian (or French) and from Romanian (or French) into English
To assess efficiency, linguistic accuracy, and appropriateness of professional discourse

Course Entry Requirements:

Intermediate to upper-intermediate English and French proficiency; interest in technical or applied translation, terminology, and scientific communication

Course contents:

The 12 seminar sessions integrate professional communication skills, specialized vocabulary, and grammatical accuracy through translation, comparative analysis, and debate.

Teaching methods:

Interactive lectures and discussions. Guided translation exercises and error analysis. Peer and self-assessment tasks. Case studies and project-based translation research. Vocabulary building and contextual grammar workshops.

Learning outcomes:

O1: Identify features of oral and written communication and the structure of scientific texts in English and Romanian/French.
O2: Interpret the link between message and context, explaining argumentative techniques.
O3: Use information sources critically and ethically.
O4: Assess efficiency, linguistic accuracy, and appropriateness of professional discourse.

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written examination (translation - EN-RO/FR and reverse translation RO/FR-EN) and portfolio of translations.
