Aims

-Obtaining, by students, of the main cognitive instruments, theoretical and methodological, useful for understanding and appropriate analysis of sociological perspective (and, scientific, generally), upon deviance domain.

-Knowledge, from a comparative perspective, of the main moments that mark the evolution of the sociology of deviance and social control

-Acquisition, by students, of a perspective of pertinent approach of the different social groups, taking into account their cultural particularities (judging the “deviance” according to the particular context in which it occurs)

Course contents

1. Introduction. Concepts and definitions 2. Social interaction and deviance 3. Relativity and universality of deviance 4. Criminological theories of biological orientation 5. Critical evaluation of the biological theories 6. Psychological orientation 7. Precursors of sociological approach 8. The consensual theoretical model 9. The critical evaluation of consensual model 10. The conflictual theoretical model 11. The critical evaluation of the conflictual model 12. The suicide 13. Drug Addictions 14. Juvenile deviance

Learning outcomes

• Transmitting, to students, the main cognitive, theoretical and methodological tools necessary for the understanding and pertinent analysis of the issue of deviance from a sociological (and scientific, in general) perspective Understanding historical, social and intellectual climate in which appeared and made itself known the sociology of deviance as a sociological branch. • Acquiring of an adequate approach of different social groups, taking into account their cultural specificities (judging "deviance" depending on the particular context in which it occurs)

Assessment

-A two-hour written examination (60% of the final grade)The evaluation of a paper achieved by the student, regarding a specific deviance issue, using scientific resources (statistical data and research papers) (40% of the final grade).
