Course aims:

Updating, correcting and developing the previously acquired English skills
Developing the study abilities in English through specific tasks based on listening, speaking, and reading
Developing a cognitive strategy for the understanding of the specialized texts through the familiarization with thespecialized Administration and Legal terminology in English
Developing the abilities of clear communication and presentation of the acquired information in English.

Course contents:

1. Legal language as a distinctive genre: register, field of discourse and mode of discourse; Features of legal language: style, syntax, lexis 2. Legal systems: the structure of the law, the Constitution 3. Sources of law: Legislation, background to making a new law, early development of a bill 4. The court system: Civil courts 5. The court system: Criminal courts 6. Criminal justice and criminal proceedings: Categories of criminal offence 7. Criminal justice and criminal proceedings: Criminal court proceedings 8. Civil procedure: Civil procedure rules 9. Tribunals: The status and range of tribunals, composition of tribunals and procedure 10. European Union Law. What is the E.U? 11. European Union Law. How does the E.U impact on member states? 12. European Union Law. How does the E.U impact on member states? 13. Solicitors: Legal practitioners, traning, a partner in a law firm 14. Barristers: organisation: training and qualifications of practicing barristers.

Learning outcomes:

Developing listening, reading and speaking abilities related to specific Administrative and Legal topics • Acquiring familiarity with specialized language; reading for gist, understanding and communicating contents
