Course aims:

Acquiring general and specific knowledge of ancient and Byzantine mosaic art techniques
Developing creativity in the field of contemporary mosaic techniques.
Knows and can apply the techniques specific to mosaic art.

Course contents:

A historical perspective on mosaic techniques. Terminology. Pavement and wall mosaic.

Motifs and symbols from Protohistory and Antiquity.

The Greco-Roman synthesis Byzantium.

Islam The Middle Ages.

The Renaissance Mosaic in the modern and contemporary era.

Innovative technical elements in mosaic in the 20th century.

Teaching methods:

presentation, debates, working groups, free discussions, analyses, case studies, practical applications

Learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to apply theoretical and practical knowledge of visual expression to create original works using traditional and contemporary mosaic techniques.

Conduct artistic research and design projects that integrate conceptual, aesthetic, and technical components specific to mosaic art.

Oral exam and essay 50%, Artistic project 50%
