Course aims:

To gain an understanding of the concepts, theories and research methodologies of sociology as applicable to a wide variety of social problems.
Use specific terminology correctly and in a variety of contexts
To analyze the main theories that contributed to the development of social pedagogy
To plan and organize specific activities with the students / preschoolers
To design the educational strategy for the social integration of children

Course contents:

The concept of social pedagogy Determinants of social pedagogy as a science. The evolution of social pedagogy: ideas, representatives. Specifics of social pedagogy. The role and the tasks of social pedagogue. Work principles in social pedagogy. Social learning. Family as an educational and socialization factor. Social pedagogical climate in education centre. Life-time situations and social pedagogical activity.

Teaching methods:

Lecture, conversation, exemplification.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, and having completed the essential reading and activities, the students will be able to: • Become familiar with educational processes on the base of psychological, social and multicultural aspects. • To communicate with professionals in different field of study. • To concentrate on his/her pedagogical activity. • Become familiar with different aspects of social education and modern concepts and methods for social and educational improvement and development of social services in the context of diverse social and educational problems of the contemporary society.

Learning outcomes verification and assessment criteria:

Written paper –– 60%; project assessment – 40%.
